More and more vintage animation cartoons is getting a high definition “make over” as Blu-Ray catches on with consumers. Disney has been releasing its features, Warner Bro`s has just begun releasing and 20th Century Fox has now jumped into its vault and has remastered Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards for blu-ray release on March 13th.
Wizards is a 1977 American animated post-apocalyptic science fantasy film about the battle between two wizards, one representing the forces of magic and one representing the forces of industrial technology. Written, produced, and directed by Ralph Bakshi. Wizards is notable for being the first fantasy film made by Bakshi, who was previously known only for urban films such as Fritz the Cat, Heavy Traffic, and Coonskin.
The Wizards blu-ray will be released in “Digi-book” format which packages the disc inside a commemorative 24-page book. The book features an introduction from Ralph and is illustrated with much rare artwork from his personal collection. The film comes with audio commentary by Ralph, a documentary Ralph Bakshi: The Wizard of Animation, theatrical trailers and TV spots.
